🔹 Hello, Lake Como.

There are like six weeks every year when I catch myself seriously considering moving to Milano.

It happens every year without exception, somewhere between October and early December. And somehow, every year, I completely forget this pattern exists.

Until this weekend.

After a wonderful day at my friend’s baby shower (congrats, Agne, it was a blast!), I told my partner how strangely sad I felt about going back to Como.

He smiled and gently asked if we'd reached that time of the year again.

I laughed for a good five minutes. It's good to live with someone who knows you a bit too well.
Does anyone else get these autumn blues?

Oh, and if you haven’t heard yet, Como 1907 beat Manchester United yesterday. 4–1!

What's Happening:

Italy is considering halving the tax on certain long-term rentals from 10% to 5% in its 2027 budget.

The condition? Landlords must agree to locally regulated rent limits (canone concordato).

The numbers:

Temporary residential rentals aren't the same as holiday lets, but the trend is clear: more landlords are choosing shorter rental contracts.

And what about Lake Como?

Here, landlords can choose between tourists, temporary tenants and year-round residents. A lower tax bill is welcome, but would it outweigh rent limits, potentially higher earnings elsewhere, and concerns about unpaid rent?

The bottom line: Lower taxes could help, but making long-term rentals more attractive also means making them financially worthwhile and less risky for property owners.

For now, the 5% tax is only a proposal.

🚧 SS36 Slows Down. Works at Verceia will bring alternating traffic and waits of up to 20 minutes from 26 October until the end of November.

💶 Lecco Ranks Fourth. Lecco has Italy’s fourth-highest average declared income at €29,906.

🏟️ Arena Countdown Begins. Cantù’s €40M, 5,200-seat arena is nearing completion. Its first events will be announced in November.

🎄 Christmas Stalls Open. Como is offering three Piazza Grimoldi Christmas chalets to local Third Sector organisations from 21 November to 6 January. Applications close on 2 November.

🏭 Lattonedil Gets Bigger. The Carimate company bought 60% of Pan Urania. Lattonedil now expects its total sales to reach €500M in 2026.
