Last weekend, I did the classic late-night airport run to Milano.

Not my first time, so I navigated it.
Only +15 minutes. Acceptable.
But then it got interesting.
We stop at a gas station in Como on the way back.
Within minutes, three different cars pull up asking for help. Not one. Three.
All stuck. All confused.
One of them? German. Heading to the airport. Bold.
Reality check:
If you go to bed early, you’re missing a whole parallel universe.
After midnight, Northern Italy turns into a live experiment in chaos, missed exits, and (very likely) missed flights.

🔦 Spotlight: Italian business confidence fell off a cliff overnight
What's Happening:
Banca d'Italia just published its Q1 2026 survey of 2,531 Italian firms. It doubled as a real-time record of the moment a conflict reshaped everything.
Facts:
The survey ran Feb 20 - March 18. The Persian Gulf conflict broke out Feb 28. The before/after split is striking: the general economic sentiment index went from -16 to -47 in a matter of days.
Overall, business confidence landed at -35 (it was -15 the previous quarter). Investment conditions hit -30, down 21 points.
Exports took the hardest hit - industrial sector export expectations dropped from 26 to 7 after Feb 28.
Employment is the one bright spot: still positive across all sectors (+9 industry, +15 services, +21 construction).
Inflation expectations stayed calm: 1.6% at 6 months, 1.7% at 12 months.
AI adoption: only 3% of Italian firms use it extensively. Among companies with 1,000+ employees, it jumps to 62% (sample was 2531 Italian companies)
What does it mean for us:
The shock was sharp, not deep - yet. Jobs are holding, prices are stable, investment plans unchanged. The real threat for local businesses isn't a downturn. It's a quieter one: shrinking margins while energy costs stay high.
