🔦 Spotlight: 11M Italians are exempt from Income tax
What's Happening:
Today, the pre-filled Modello 730 becomes available for declaring your tax.
At the same time, data from 2025 income tax reports came out. Some interesting facts:
Facts:
Lombardy is Italy's wallet. Highest average declared income in the country: €30,200. Bolzano follows at €29,850. Calabria sits at €19,020.
Italy's national average hit €25,820, up 4% YoY. Total declared income crossed €1.076 trillion - €48.6B more than the prior year.
The self-employed gap is wild. Self Employed individuals declared €67,510 on average - nearly x3 employees (€24,250).
The "salaried Italy" still funds the country. Employees (54.4% of taxpayers) plus pensioners hold 84.6% of all declared income.
A growing slice of Italy is invisible in these numbers. ~2 million people (+3.3%) sit inside the 15% forfettario flat-tax regime - and their incomes are excluded from the national averages. Another 11.3 million pay zero IRPEF.
What Does it Mean for us?
1. There's more money around here than the headlines say. Lake Como is in Italy's richest region - the average income (€30,200) is 60% higher than in Calabria, and ~2M Italians on the flat tax aren't even counted in that number.
2. More incentives are coming for the self-employed. Autonomi numbers dropped 4.1%. Expect Rome and the Chamber of Commerce (already adding new incentives every quarter) to keep making it easier to start and run a business.
