First, a confession. 🤦♂️
I dropped the ball last week. I somehow left the Brienno Christmas market off the list, and - Murphy’s Law - it turned out to be the Bridgerton of holiday markets. We’re talking ancient cobblestone market streets, local Nonnas selling crafts, fireplaces by the lake promenade, Alpini pouring wine, and literal harp concerts.
If you missed it because of me, I owe you a hot chocolate. But! I’m redeeming myself today. I’ve scouted the lake for the most interesting remaining festive events to ensure your calendar is packed. Let’s get into it.

Como and Lecco Quality of Life Index 2025: Lecco is 15th in Italy.
What’s Happening: The Cities Quality of Life 2025 Index came out. Lecco ranks 15th overall in Italy, while Como is 25th.
Facts:
Best Place for Kids in Italy: Lecco ranks #1 in the entire country for the "Quality of Life for Children" (0-10 years). It excels in school canteens, accessible gyms, and low crime against minors. Como is #29.
Wealthiest Runner-Up: Lecco province is an economic powerhouse, ranking 5th in Italy for "Wealth and Consumption," indicating extremely high disposable income and spending power among residents. Como is #33.
Dynamic Business Creation: Both are entrepreneurial powerhouses. For "New Business Registrations," Lecco is #10 and Como is #11 in Italy.
Cultural Weakness: For a city on the lake, both scores poorly in "Culture and Leisure," ranking 77th (Lecco) and #70 (Como).
Low Conflict Society: Lecco is 1st and Como is the 3rd best province for the "Litigation Index," meaning residents rarely sue each other.
Safety Paradox (Home Burglaries): Despite being the 1st safest province in the "Drug Safety and “Litigation" category, Lecco has a major flaw: it ranks 92nd for home burglaries (376 thefts per 100k inhabitants), a common issue in wealthy northern areas. Como - even worse this year - 106th.
Safest from Drugs: Lecco ranks #1 (best) for the lowest number of drug-related crimes reported, making it an exceptionally clean environment for raising families.
Best in Italy for Grocery Prices: Como ranks 1st for the lowest inflation on food and non-alcoholic beverages (just 1.7%), protecting residents' purchasing power better than anywhere else.
What does it mean for us:
Lecco and Como provinces both rank high for life quality in Italy.
Poor air quality, lack of cultural events, and home burglaries this year hit the ratings on both provinces.
Both provinces are great for business creation, longevity, wealth and spending.
